Fleas can survive (and thrive!) during the winter months…YIKES!

The calendar says that winter is well and fully under-way, but the weather outside says otherwise. Temperatures are reaching upwards of 70 degrees, and we’re pulling out t-shirts and shorts in favor of gloves and coats. While I’m sure that practically all of us are enjoying this beautiful weather there is actually a serious downside to this glorious weather. FLEAS.

Fleas love this type of weather, in fact, they thrive in it. And with each gloriously warm day a new crop of fleas is born. What does this mean for you and your pet? It means that you must use flea prevention all year. A lot of people discontinue flea preventative use during the winter months because, ideally, the extremely cold weather will kill the fleas. However, that is no longer happening. These warm days are only encouraging the birth of more fleas.

You can end the cycle though! Start your cat or dog on flea preventative now in order to miss out on the headache later.

Our office offers several rebates and discounts on flea/heartworm protection. Stop by or call for more information!
